On Friday 25th May, on BBC One at 9.00pm, William Shatner will guest host an edition of Have I Got News For You.  The 81-year old will be joined by regular panellists Ian Hislop and Paul Merton, along with guest panellists Charlie Brooker and Andy Hamilton.

The show takes a light hearted look at the news events from the week, and we can expect Star Trek to be brought up at some stage!

Have I Got News For You airs on BBC One on Friday evenings at 9.00pm for 30 minutes.  An extended edition, Have I Got a Bit More News For You airs on Saturday evenings (check listings for exact time).  As always, the show is available on the BBC iPlayer (to UK residents) for one week after transmission of the episode.

In October this year, Star Trek comes to London, and they’re brining five of the captains with them – William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew and Scott Bakula.

Due in cinemas on May 17th 2013, the as-yet untitled sequel to 2009′s Star Trek finished filming yesterday on May 8th 2012, and will now move into post-production, with just over a year left before it hits the big screens.

J. J. Abrams and his crew will be trying to keep as many details about the movie as secret as they can, just as the did in 2008 and 2009, so out attention turns to Comic-Con in July as being the most likely venue to see footage from the new movie – and potentially revealing some long awaited details on the next instalment.

What About UFP?

I have received several e-mails asking why I have not covered some of the spoilers for the movie that where leaked last week.  Simply, I do not want to spoil this movie for the fans.  There is a good reason why J. J. Abrams wants total secrecy on this project, and that is why this site will remain SPOILER FREE until official details and snippets are released.

Is it May 17th 2013 yet…?

Although the Prime Universe Spock has siad on numerous occassions that he has passed on the role to new actor Zachary Quinto – MR. Nimoy has hinted that there is still a chance of him appearing in the 2013 sequel currently filming.

As reported by TrekMovie while speaking to CNN reporters:

CAROL: Could I just say that I admire you? And in the new Star Trek movie [the 2009 version] you had a very prominent role, Leonard Nimoy, and I enjoyed it very much. You’re fantastic.

JASON: In fact, Carol, we were talking about that … [to Nimoy] Carol, Carol Costello, the anchor … remember we were talking about the new Star Trek movie. It was great, you did a great job in it. And we were just about talking about that just before … will you be in another Star Trek movie?

NIMOY: Uhh, we’re talking. We’re talking.

As if the pair did not have enough to do, they’ve now signed up to produce the script for the sequel The Amazing Spider-Man – which has not even been released in theatres yet!

Den of Geek reports that a draft script already in place, and being no strangers to the movie business, the pair have been tasked with shaping the draft into a usable script for filming of the Sony sequel.  Speaking they said:

“We grew up as huge Spider-Man fans so, to us, the opportunity to work on this film is akin to being handed the Holy Grail. We love the direction Sony and the filmmakers are taking the Peter Parker/Spider-Man mythology and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of this legendary franchise.”

Collider reports that Fuller, who got his start in television working as a writer on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager, is eager to bring Star Trek back to the smaller screen:

“Bryan[Singer] and I are big fans of [Star] Trek and have discussed a take on what we would do, and we would love to do it. I don’t think anything is going to happen in any official capacity until after the next movie comes out. And I’m sure it would be wisely under J.J. Abrams’ purview of what happens. He’s the guardian of Trek right now.”

While it appears that there is a growing feeling that Trek deserves its return to weekly showings, the feeling is that there might be a wait.  J. J. Abrams’ sequel movie is on on 17th May 2013 – with a potential for a third movie to be filmed (box office dependant).  It is highly likely that Paramount/CBS would not consider any moves back to a television series before production on a third film has competed.

The star, who is currently filming the sequel to the 2009 hit was visiting Yale University as part of its annual celebration of Asian Pacific-American Heritage Month.  He spoke to over 200 students about how the “demand” for Asian-American actors has changed in the industry due to the “purchasing power” of Asian-Americans, according to the Yale Daily News:

“It’s so important to see someone who looks like you doing it, it’s something our brain needs, to see someone who looks like us doing something to convince us that something is possible.”

Cho can be next seen, on the silver screen in the Total Recall reboot – which is out on August 22nd.

Launching in “early 2013″ the new Star Trek co-op game will allow users to become Kirk and Spock on their home consoles.

Sheldon Carter spoke to IGN regarding the game and told them:

“The question that comes up a lot is, ‘What’s exploration like in Star Trek? What does it mean to seek out new alien worlds and technologies, and to relate to them in a way that’s not just cover shooting? That’s something that’s been on our minds right from the beginning … this is not just a game where you’re going to run and gun and kill everyone.”

Taking place in London’s Excel from October 19th to 21st this year Destination Star Trek London promises to be massive European event for Star Trek fans, including bringing together William Shatner, Patrick Stewart, Avery Brooks, Kate Mulgrew and Scott Bakula together for the first time in Europe.

ChessBase reports that J. J. Abrams has recently become fascinated with the 21-year-old star that he offered him 100,000 Kroner for a futuristic chess game.  Carlsen responded to queries:

“The inquiry was completely unexpected, it would have been a fun experience, so it’s a shame that it will not happen.”

Carlsen eventually had to turn down the offer as it turned out he could not get a work visa in time for the Spring shoot currently being filmed.
